Welcome to Kindergarden

Starting school is a big step for children and families. Our school runs orientation and transition activities to help your child feel ready for Kindergarten and to support you as parents and carers.

Kindergarten Enrolment Interviews

Kindergarten enrolment interviews will be held over two sessions:

• Wednesday 9 September – 9:15 am to 3:00 pm
• Thursday 10 September – 9:15 am to 3:00 pm

Interviews are by appointment and will be arranged through the school office.

Kindergarten Orientation Sessions

Children will be welcomed by their teachers and introduced to their classrooms and future Kindergarten classmates. They will take part in a variety of engaging, structured activities, including play, craft, stories, and songs, designed to help them become familiar with the school environment. There is no need for children to wear a school uniform or bring any food or drinks to these sessions.

• Session 1: Thursday 15th October 9.10am-12.20pm

  Students visit classrooms in small groups.

• Session 2: Thursday 29th October 9.10am-11.00am

  Students will be in classrooms for an informal classroom visit.

  Parents are welcome to attend the Parent Information Session and Workshop in the school hall. to learn about daily schedules, uniforms, lunches and communication. If you need an interpreter, let us know.

Before your child starts Kindergarden

Enrolment interview

Before your cihild begins, all families meet with our Assistant Principals. This is a time to share:

• medical conditions or allergies
• learning support needs
• family circumstances that may affect your child’s start

We want every child to feel safe, supported and included in school life.

Kindergarten Orientation and Information Sessions

Our orientation sessions help children:

• meet teachers and classmates
• explore classrooms and playgrounds
• practice simple routines

Parents and carers join information sessions to learn about daily schedules, uniforms, lunches and communication. If you need an interpreter, let us know.

Parent Questionnaire

Upon enrolment you will be provided with a parent questionaire. By completing and returning this to the school, we are provided with insights into your child that allows us to help tailor learning programs to suit each child's needs.

Getting Ready at Home

You can help your child get ready by encouraging independence and routines:

• packing and unpacking their school bag
• dressing themselves and practising hygiene
• following simple routines at home
• download our Get To Know Your New School SNPS to look at regularly and help your child feel familiar and comfortable with their new school.

What to Expect in Kindergarden

Learning and Development

Kindergarten follows the NSW curriculum. Children build early skills in literacy, numeracy, creative arts, health and physical activity, science and technology. Learning through play also supports social, emotional and academic growth.

Daily Routines

Kindergarten is all about learning daily school routines, such as morning arrival, snack and lunch breaks, lining up, using bubblers and moving safely around the school. Teachers guide children as they settle in, but practising at home helps.

Best Start Assessment

At the start of the year, all Kindergarten children take part in the Best Start Assessment. This is a friendly, one-on-one activity where teachers learn about your child’s literacy and numeracy skills. It is not a test and needs no preparation.
